Band of Horses: Infinite Arms

I think this one’s gonna take some time to grow on me.
I’m pretty sure that it will though.
This album is a new direction for Band of Horses, and I have to be honest I’m a little disappointed at that.
I mean… when you listen to their past catalog you just want more and more and more…
and that’s really what I was hoping for on this album.
However,
I think these guys definitely know what they are doing, and churning out more of the same just to make me happy really isn’t in their best interests.
and I do really like it… I’ve listened several times today and each listen was better than the last. It’s way more laid back and a little more country that what I expected.
Not country-western, but it has a real feeling of being out in the country… like an old Neil Young record or Fleet Foxes or something like that. It reminds me of the times I’d walk around our Montana ranch and watch the eagles overhead and the horses below and breathe deeply.
The air in Montana is like fine wine. You must take your time breathing to appreciate the quality, because you know that no other air will ever compare.
This album doesn’t have the emotion of their earlier offerings and even though I miss that, it is probably a good thing. Infinite arms will stay steadily in our playlist for the next couple years (just as Cease to Begin has since 2007).
And I won’t be surprised as it gets better and better with time.
Every step, a victory it was.
I was cheating death.
Just in time I woke.My memories start to wander off
Come to me the remembrance of
My way back home.
