Churchill the Band

My friend Mike Morter left Michigan for Denver last year to start up a band with some of his college buddies.

Why Denver? I have no idea…

Honestly I was a little fearful that Mike was “too good” for a band, but the stuff they are starting to put out as Churchill isn’t too shabby and in particular the song “I Still Remember” is just plain fantastic.

In fact, I’ve got it stuck in my head now and I don’t mind at all.

They recently placed 16th in an online competition for a chance to play at the Austin City Limits music festival.

If you don’t know… this is a really big deal.

The coolest part of that competition is that after fan voting placed them in the top 100, a panel of industry judges selected Churchill as one of the top 20 artists.

Pretty decent compliment I think.

Unfortunately at that point it went back to fan voting and Churchill didn’t stand a chance against the bands that have been around long enough to have thousands of Myspace friends from which to garner votes.

I’m quite certain these guys would have placed higher if it had been a panel selection rather than a popularity contest.

Most their stuff so far isn’t life-changing… yet…

but keep an eye on them… if “I Still Remember” shows any hint of their potential… they are going to get really, really good…

Here’s a great chance to be a snob… now you’ve heard them before anyone else you know.
