Idiot with a Tripod

Roger Ebert says this short film shot & cut during the blizzard in NYC a couple weeks ago should win the Academy Award. I don’t know if that’s a real possibility, but it would definitely be more-than groundbreaking for a youtube video to be considered among the top industry films of the year. It should be so, though… and could inspire millions of solo filmakers to consider creating beautiful films just because they should be created. Spike Jonze interprets Shel Silverstein with I’m Here
Posted by Troy | Filed under Film
I have no idea how this released in March and I just discovered it today.
While I and everyone else was flipping out about Where the Wild Things are this winter, Spike Jonze was busy creating his first ever love-story film.
Of course, leave it to Spike Jonze to do so in the form of a short film about robots.
I honestly just finished watching this film and there is so much I could say… but you’ve really got to just see it for yourself.
It’s based on Shel Silvestein’s magical and timeless story of The Giving Tree, so as you can imagine the film is sad and hopeful and heartbreaking and inspiring all at once.
If you have a lunch break today, gather everyone around a computer, dim the lights and enjoy this together.
Go watch I’m Here. (then come back and tell me what you think.)
P.S. The soundtrack is… well……….

Joshua asks “Did I turn out to be the son you wanted when I was born? Like, did I meet your expectations?”
First of all I can’t watch those 10 seconds without totally losing it.
Second…
I honestly don’t know what I’d say if my son were to ask me the same question.
